PERFECT PASTIZZI - Gotta be Gato's

There are many brands of pastizzi available in Australia but the only ones that have the true maltese flavour and crunch in my opinion (and my maltese wife’s opinion) are Gato's Pastizzi. They are a little smaller than some of the other brands but quite simply are a lot better.

What are pastizzi? Pastizzi are oven baked maltese savory pasties which are either traditionally filled with mushy peas or ricotta cheese. They also make them with other trendy fillings (like chicken and mushroom, chilli con carne etc), but for the true maltese taste you should stick to peas or ricotta. Peas are my favorite and the Gato ones are pefectly spiced and seasoned (not bland like the other brands).

The term Pastizzi is also used amongst maltese to refer to part for the female anatomy – can you guess what?!

Gato’s Pastizzi are great ready cooked and hot or frozen ready to pop in a hot oven at home.

Where to go to get them...

You can get them frozen from various delis/fruit markets and supermarkets around Australia like at:

Hi Anonymous -You must try Gato's Pastizzi!!! There are three places I know of in Sydney I know of where you can get them (as mentioned in the article). If your not in Sydney I would suggest calling Gato's on (02) 9361 6942 (or contact them via their website www.gatospastizzi.com.au) and ask them where they supply to near you. Good luck.

They have a typo on their shop front - please tell them that in Maltese, the q does not need a u, and the correct spelling is "qassata"!
